Is Playing Cards An Activity To Be Shunned?

I’m certain all of us have been in situations where we’ve been stared down by an elder while playing cards. Mostly those who are a couple of generations older to us. All we’d have been doing is playing some games like Blackjack – Judi online or Ass, which are really basic, and yet we’d all get the same treatment without discount. No brownie points for guessing why they stare us down. I genuinely hope you guessed it right – because cards, in general are associated with gambling. That’s the reason elders admonish us when we play cards after a certain point in the day, or any point in the day, for that matter.

Cards themselves are not a bad influence on anyone. Just 52 sheets of cardboard or cut plastic that have unlimited fun in store for the players. With countless games that can be played, with even more iterations, the cards have a different experience in store each time they’re played. And they’re a kind of game that do not exclude anyone. Any number of players can play informal games such as Rummy and Ass, and have fun with the group playing. Now, is it right to shun such a versatile and accommodating game? No, in my opinion. Of course, I could be wrong. If you have a different take on the matter, the door to spread the word is always open.

Obviously, our grandparents and parents have nothing against the cards themselves, and only hate it because they associate it with gambling. And it is true that is a habit that needs tremendous self control so as to not get addicted. Their wariness and hatred towards gambling is definitely not misplaced.

But hating cards just because of that, right there, is misdirected hate. If they hate gambling, they should hate just that. Not affiliated things like ludo and cards. Agreed that these are the means through which gambling take place, but no one here is going to those extremes to have fun. None of us kids have the time, or the resources to do any serious gambling.

In a nutshell, as long as we stay in our lanes and do not do anything that the elders at home disapprove of, we should be allowed to do or play the games of our choice, and that includes cards, and ludo and dice, for that matter.
