How To Make A Farmhouse Table?
We know what a Farmhouse Table is. Though the professionals can make the ones better than the way we imagine but there is always a satisfaction when we make our own things. With the intermediate skills we have we can also try making on our own. With the following steps we can get the generalized idea of how we can make it.
For making it the basic things we will require are-
- Weathered Stain Varnish or Finish oil.
- About 100 3 or 4” screws.
- 20 4” screws.
- Wood glue.
- Wood filler.
- Grit sandpaper.
- Paint brush.
Tools required are-
- Speed square
- Drill
- Saw
- Nailer
- Sander
- Measuring tape
- Hammer
Now using these things we can prepare one.
- Cut four pieces of 28 ½” x 4” x 2” outside legs and notch 3 ½” x 1 ½” x 2” keeping 3 ½” from one side and mark it as bottom side of the cut piece.
- Cut four pieces of inside legs with the same measurement and notch as of outside legs with additional notch of the top side of 3 ½” x 1 ½” x 2”.
- Now screw the inside legs to the outside legs using wood glue and 3” or 4” screw, screwing through the inside leg to keep the screws inside.
- Now cut the end supporter for the stretcher with the measurement of 32 ½” x 3 ½” x 1” and notch out 3 ½” x 1” x 1” in the middle by edge keeping 15 ½” on each side.
- Now screw the supporter piece to the leg piece screwing to the bottom notch of both the outside and inside leg using 2 screws on inside leg and 2 screws on outside leg.
- Cut the stretcher with the measurement of 81” x 2” x 4” and place on the notch of the bottom supporter and screw it.
- Cut the aprons as side aprons with the measurement of 81” x 2” x 4” and End aprons with the measurement of 28 ½” x 2” x 4” and screw them through the side aprons into the edge end of the end aprons using 3 screws per corner.
- Now fill the apron frame to the base of the table including the legs, end support and stretcher using lots of wood glue and screws at an angle with each corner having 3 screws.
- Fill the space in the apron frame with support with some gap like 5 ¾” between them. The gap can be flexible.
- Cut the overhang support, sides overhang support with the measurement 78” x 2” x 2” and end overhang support with the measurement 28 ½” x 2” x 2” and add these to the apron frame and screw them.
- Cut the breadboard ends with the measurement of 38 ½” x 8” x 2” and add them over the end aprons and screw them to the legs using the 4” screw from under side of the end overhang support.
- Cut the table top piece with the measurement of 81” x 6” x 2” and mark the screw spots on the four corners keeping 1” from the ends and on in the middle of each side and drill the marked spots for the screw.
- Now place the table top over the complete frame and screw it. After all the boards are screwed use the long screws through the table top to the breadboard ends.
- After finishing fill the screw holes with the wood fillers. The table is ready. Apply the varnish to give the finishing touch and paint the table as you want.
